John Helmiere
I am a growth-oriented, client-centered therapist dedicated to helping clients overcome shame, anxiety, unmet needs, and other obstacles to living as their most authentic selves. I bring a non-judgmental, body-positive, and pleasure-affirming approach to therapy. With degrees from Yale and Dartmouth and 15 years of experience supporting diverse individuals through major life transitions, I now offer reduced-rate sessions as an interning therapist completing a graduate degree in Sex Therapy at Antioch University Seattle.
My approach combines narrative techniques, mindfulness, somatic awareness, nonviolent communication, and experiential strategies tailored to each client’s needs—whether they prefer a direct, challenging style or a gentler, compassionate one. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling like passengers in life rather than drivers. If that resonates, I’d love to help you rewrite the unhelpful stories you’ve been told and reclaim your own narrative.
I work with individuals and those in relationships on a variety of issues, with a special focus on long-term relationships, parenting challenges, men’s sexual concerns, and navigating religious, queer, non-monogamous, and kink identities.
